MAKE A WISH. TAKE A CHANCE. MAKE A CHANGE

img_9948Hey Guys!

If you follow my on my YouTube Channel, then you must know by now that I’ve wanted a change. I love my natural hair, but it was all I knew. As I mentioned in this video, I basically wanted to experiment more with my hair. I knew the risks going in and was fully ready to face the consequences. Although there are other and less damaging ways that I could experiment with my tresses, I knew that this is something I had to go through at some point in my life. Why not now? I wondered about how my hair would be relaxed for quite some time. untitled-2

I love hair. Period. I know a lot of people aren’t going to understand this decision, especially since I have a channel dedicated to my natural hair but I want to see my hair in different states. I still want to dye it, cut it, perm it, and lock it. Honestly, it is just hair! I want to have fun with it and not feel like it is this “thing” that I need to indefinitely take care of. I don’t believe that every women perm/relax/chemically alter their hair because of self-hate. I can’t speak for everyone, but I know it isn’t the case for me. At some point in life, I will go back to my natural hair but for now, I am having fun with it. Change is good. Change is what I wanted. Change is what I got. Check out the video below to hear my thoughts on my relaxer experience.

How To Slay & Maintain Your Puff on Natural Hair

Puff64 Steps to the perfect puffHey Guys!

As I upload my latest youtube video, I realize that I rarely post about my natural hair on the blog. Considering that hair is such a big aspect of my life (it all started as a hair vlogger after all), I figured I should incorporate it on the blog more often, so here we go!

Today, I will go over the few steps that I follow in order to maintain a puff on 4C hair. I don’t leave my hair out very much, but when I do, it is guaranteed to be in a puff. It is such a chic, effortless hairstyle in my opinion, plus it is easy to maintain. What more can you ask for? I try not to do it too often, though. Just as it is easy to achieve, it is easy to forget/ignore your hair, which can result in a lot of single strand knots and dryness. Now that is a big no-no. So just like anything else in life, moderation is key,

STEPS
1. ALWAYS TIE YOUR HAIR AT NIGHT- This will not only reduce the amount of knots you get but also will prevent your hair from drying out. If your hair is similar to mine, this is key to preventing breakage. You should be using a satin scarf at night, regardless of the hairstyle you have.

2. SPRITZ YOUR HAIR- I find that my hair is a lot more manageable when I spray it with some water. I take it a step further and use a little leave-in moisturizer and an oil to moisturize my hair.

3. USE AN EDGE CONTROL- This step really gives your hairstyle a flawless finish. I personally don’t like to use a lot of gel but I finally found an edge control that stole my heart. It is light weight and doesn’t flake or leave my hair really hard. Use a soft bristle brush to tame those edges.

4. GOODIES HAIRBANDS ARE YOUR BEST FRIEND  I honestly don’t know any other ways of achieving a puff. You really need them in your life and they are fairly inexpensive. I like to purposely stretch them out so that I can wrap them around my hair twice. That way, they are tight enough, but now too tight to the point that they will give me a headache. Know what I am sayin’?

5. WORK IT- The bigger the better! Just let your hair do its thing. Honestly, just OWN it.

I hope that these steps are helpful and if you have any questions, leave me a comment.

Thanks again for stopping by!

The Infamous Wash-n-Go

IMG_5359 Wash and go cover Wash n go EDEN

One the biggest misconceptions about Natural Hair is that only a certain hair type can pull of the Wash-N-Go look.  I often wonder what that actually means. The thing with natural hair is that no matter how similar your hair may be to another, it is really rare to have the SAME exact hair pattern and density as someone else. For that reason, your hairstyles may never looks exactly like your friend’s or your favorite YouTuber even though you followed the same steps. With that said, what exactly is the “Wash-N-Go” look? Big hair? Perfect curls? I believe that the reason why people believe that 4C hair cannot do the Wash-N-Go is because of the preconceived ideas of how the end results should LOOK like.

The Wash-n-go should be just that: wash and go! We often spend endless hours raking products through our already beautiful tresses in a desperate attempt to have the perfect curl all around. The thing is, your hair is already perfect. The point of the wash and go, in my opinion, is to spend as little time as possible styling your hair. I believe it is a time when you let YOUR hair decide how it’s going to behave. We already put so much tension and stress manipulating our hair on the regular so why not just let it be free? The first step to achieving a wash and go is to understand that your hair is not going to look like mine, or the person next to you. It is going to look like your hair. It is going to be unique and it may not even look like the last wash-go you did last week. That’s okay. That is the beauty of it all. Once you realize that the goal of a wash-n-go is not to have perfect curls, and that no products is going to CREATE a hair pattern that you don’t have, then you will be able to succeed. Any hair types can “pull off” this hair style.

To help you with the process however, I am going to share with you how I achieve my wash-n-go. I find that using the right products can help prevent my hair from getting dry. The goal for me is to be able to wash my hair a week later and not be left with dry, brittle hair. This basically rules out all gels with high alcohol! I ended up using the Eden Body Works Coconut Shea Line and I loved it!

  1. Wash hair: I like to start with clean hair. Especially since I know I will be putting more products in my hair, it was crucial for me to wash it. That way, my hair will not feel sticky and/or weight down
  2. Deep Condition: This goes without saying! 4C hair craves moisture and I know that I have to deep condition my hair weekly to keep it nice and manageable.
  3. Define: I should emphasize that this step should be quick and simple. Also, no amount of products will create curls magically. Whatever products your end up using, just make sure that it doesn’t try your hair out. Also, I like to detangle my hair then too. This is where i really love the Eden Body works Curl Defining Creme because it has a lot of slip. It allows me to finger detangle, which is gentle on my hair. It also keeps my hair moisturized the entire week!
  4. Refresh: This step is done as needed but I will basically spritz my hair with water every morning and used an oil to full it out again. I sleep in a satin bonnet so my hair is pretty flat in the morning.

That is it! Super simple and super easy! If you would like a visual representation of what I do, watch the video below. If you have any questions, please let me know! Now tell me how you achieve your wash-n-gos and what are your holy grail products?

Baby, Let Your Hair Down

IMG_5146 IMG_5178 IMG_5183 IMG_5225 IMG_5250// Dress-Sirens // Shoes- Payless // Bag & Accessories- Aldo //

Hey guys!

About two weeks ago I’ve straighten my hair. I have been enjoying my straight hair so much that I never want to wash my hair ever again! Okay, well maybe I have to and I think I may do that this week end but for right now, this is life!

After the 6 months protective style challenge, It couldn’t wait to see if I had retained any length. Although my hair grew, the length wasn’t noticeable because I practically gave myself a hair cut back in April. As a result, my hair is the same length as when I started the challenge! I am okay with that but I am pretty unhappy with the thickness. For some reason, my hair has been thinning so much over the past year. I actually wanted to do a 3rd Big Chop after seeing how thin it was but I decided to just work on it. This will be my next goal for now. I won’t go into all the details on this post  but I will basically start from the inside out. I will make sure that I am getting lots of nutrients and I will start taking a multivitamin/hair vitamin! I am pretty horrible with keeping up with vitamins but I will set up multiple reminders and hopefully that helps. In addition, I will start to be very strict with my regimen, as I have been pretty lazy with it. I share this journey with you all, as always!

On another note, I have been experiencing more with my outfits! Look at me being all girlie with that dress!  I plan to step outside my comfort zone in the future and I am looking forward to it.

Happy Friday, by the way!

Feeling like a Teenager!

BraidsIMG_9512IMG_9616IMG_9556IMG_9533

Hey guys!

I still remember quitting my full-time job so vividly last Fall. It was a nerve-racking thing to do as I not only enjoyed my work but I was also diving into a new chapter in my life. The uncertainty was killing me but I am glad to say that I survived two semesters of school!  It’s crazy how fast time went and I am one step closer to completing my degree. This goes to show that sometimes you just need to take the leap, and everything else will follow.

As we are finally experiencing warmer temperatures here, I have to say that I am looking forward to having four months off and enjoying the summer. The good thing about being a student is actually having downtime in the spring/ summer.  I feel like I am 18 all over again! When I was working full time, it just wasn’t the same. I still had to wake up early, went about the task of the day, and was too tired to accomplish much after work so it didn’t feel like summer at all. The days felt just as busy as any other seasons. However, I find myself rolling out of bed around 11am lately with a grin on my face and going to bed around 3am. I am telling you, the life! lol

I hope you are enjoying yourself, wherever you are!

Pop Of Color

IMG_9855IMG_9850IMG_9840 IMG_9835

Hey guys!

As I was editing the footage for this hairstyle, I decided to include an outdoor scene of my hair and outfit. Tripod and camera in hand, I ventured outside hoping to get this done as quickly as possible because I had to go to work in a couple of hours. As soon as I got to an ideal location, I turned on my camera and it died instantly! I didn’t quite understand as the batter was in the charger all night. I went back home, just to find out that the unit wasn’t plugged in an outlet as all! Because I was DETERMINED to film, edit and upload this video today, I did not let this get to me. I let the battery charge for about 20 minutes as I prepared something to eat and then went back outside to accomplish my mission. I knew that I wouldn’t have much time before the camera died again so I quickly filmed what I needed. I even had time to snap those photographs for the blog as well! Talk about killing two birds with one stone. I was out there for about 12 minutes and let me tell you, I nearly got frostbites! Regardless, I am happy I was able to do this in -23 degree weather.

All of this to say that when you set you mind to accomplish something, nothing can get in your way!

I hope you had a great and productive Monday. I leave you with the video of this easy, simple, yet cute low manipulation hair style.

Top Knot Bun

Blogyes

Hey all!

I hope that you are doing very well. If you are part of my protective style challenge currently happening on YouTube, I hope that this hairstyle will come in handy. It is EXTREMELY simple and easy to achieve. If you want to give your hair a break or just simply do not have a lot of time on your hands, then this is for you. However, this can be tricky to achieve on 4C hair. I don’t know about you guys, but I would never even dream about achieving this on my hair in its shrunken glory. Whenever my hair is fully stretched however (which doesn’t happen very often), this is my go to style.

In this particular case, I had just taken down a set of braids and needed something to do with my hair prior to washing and styling again. Needless to say, my hair was pretty dry and dirty as well, eek! I opted to moisturize and seal my hair, even though I knew I was going to wash it, just to make it more manageable for the bun. I also did not use any gel to smooth my edges for a couple of reasons. My hair doesn’t seem to like gels very much. They tend to leave my hair extremely dry. Also, I knew this style was temporary so there was no need to have it sculpted to my head. Lol

Products Used:

Shea Coconut Moisturizing Cream

-Whipped Shea Butter

-Hair Tie and Bobby Pins

-Gel (Optional)

I hope you will try this easy bun and share pictures with me on instagram!

Naturally Detangle Your Hair

finger detangle4

Hey guys!

Today, I will share with you one of the reasons that I have been able to retain so much length. As many of you probably already know, I cut all my hair off in December 2012. Although I completely revamped my hair routine, one thing that made a huge impact is how I detangle. I only use my fingers!

In the past, I thought it was simply impossible to do such a thing with kinky hair. I have seen videos of ladies with a looser hair type discuss the process but I was convinced that it wouldn’t work on my hair. Hell, the times that I have tried were disastrous to say the least. After my cut, with a boost of confidence, I decided to give finger detangling a try.

PROS

-It gives your better control of your hair

-You can literally feel the knots and tangles

-Prevents one from ripping their hair out

-Allows maximum Length retention

CONS

-Time consuming

In order to finger detangle your hair effectively, you need to make sure that your nails are filled, your ends are in good shape, and that your have enough time so that you aren’t rushing though the process. Below is a video demonstration on exactly how I finger detangle my hair. Check it out!

Sexy Can I?

Happy Valentine’s day!!!

I hope you guys enjoy this day and remember, it is the simple things in life that we often forget!

~~

Hair

As you probably know by now, I cut my hair and I ABSOLUTELY love it. Healthy hair is so much more easier to style. I have less breakage and tangles. Granted, I do have way less hair to deal with but I am telling you, I am in love. I achieved this style with Goody perm rods, which I purchased from Walmart for $1.50! What a steal!

I started with washed and conditioned hair as usual and used the Giovanni Direct Leave in. I also used my shea butter mix to seal in the moisture. I set my hair with the rods and made sure that my hair was completely dry before taking down the twists.
