A Quick Review + Giveaway

IMG_9929 IMG_9935

 Hi guys,

I hope you are all doing well. The month of love is upon us! It’s crazy how fast the year is going by, but to be honest,  I am not complaining because  it means that summer will soon be here. Oh let me tell you, the temperatures are way below zero here and I do not like it at all.

In any case, I would like to share with you all a few products that I have been using lately.  I was contacted by the owners to make a review and I gladly accepted. It’s actually pretty interesting. One day, I was browsing through Instagram when I stumbled across this lady with such thick, gorgeous natural hair. You all know now much I love thick hair so I was green with envy. About 2 weeks later, someone contacted me regarding a review. To my surprise, I found out it was Rajeeyah Sweet Naturals, the same lady whose instagram I was stalking! Although I usually don’t make product reviews, I felt like it was fate so I accepted.

Tiara Dean is one of my online friends. I have known her since our Hairlista days, way back when we first started to take care of our hair. We’ve collaborated in the past as well, so I was pretty happy for her when she launched her own product line. She also has amazing natural hair! This is one of the perks of making YouTube videos. I get to interact with such wonderful people from all over the world that I otherwise will never get the opportunity to do so. I am forever grateful for this.

Please watch the video below for my review on the products that I have tried.

In the spirit of love and generosity, I will be giving away a few of these products. I don’t know about you guys but when I watch product reviews, I get the urge to try the products in question as well. Perhaps it’s my inner product junkie-ism manifesting itself but as a result, I am personally giving away one full size product to 4 winners. All you have to do is subscribe to this blog as well as my YouTube channel, follow my instagram and leave a comment below letting me know which product you would to try. On February 14th, I will randomly select 4 winners and purchase the item that they have chosen (one entry per person please).  I will be picking two winners that requested the Rajehayh Sweet Natural Products and two winners for the Tiara Dean Products.

Pretty simple right?

Good Luck

Hey guys!

As I was editing the footage for this hairstyle, I decided to include an outdoor scene of my hair and outfit. Tripod and camera in hand, I ventured outside hoping to get this done as quickly as possible because I had to go to work in a couple of hours. As soon as I got to an ideal location, I turned on my camera and it died instantly! I didn’t quite understand as the batter was in the charger all night. I went back home, just to find out that the unit wasn’t plugged in an outlet as all! Because I was DETERMINED to film, edit and upload this video today, I did not let this get to me. I let the battery charge for about 20 minutes as I prepared something to eat and then went back outside to accomplish my mission. I knew that I wouldn’t have much time before the camera died again so I quickly filmed what I needed. I even had time to snap those photographs for the blog as well! Talk about killing two birds with one stone. I was out there for about 12 minutes and let me tell you, I nearly got frostbites! Regardless, I am happy I was able to do this in -23 degree weather.

All of this to say that when you set you mind to accomplish something, nothing can get in your way!

I hope you had a great and productive Monday. I leave you with the video of this easy, simple, yet cute low manipulation hair style.

Live, Love & Laugh

Untitled-1hrimelineHi All
I hope all of you are doing well and the New Year is treating you fabulously! Isn’t it crazy that the first month of 2015 is nearly over? Time is just flying by right in front of us!

2014 was filled with joy. When I was going though my hard drive to find footage for this post, I realized how interesting it is that I am documenting my life. Making YouTube Videos has basically enabled me to record and keep track of all the little moments. I didn’t even realize how great 2014 was, until I was looking at the videos and pictures. It was nostalgic going down memory lane.  It was a really happy year for me, as you will be able to see in the video below. My hair wasn’t the only thing that thrived. I truly enjoy filming and I hope that I can keep the blog more active this year! These things really make me happy.

I am so grateful that I am able to share these moments with you all! Oh and did I mention that today is my birthday? Yep, quarter of a century! However, (between you and I), I will always be Forever21 at heart!

Top Knot Bun

Blogyes

Hey all!

I hope that you are doing very well. If you are part of my protective style challenge currently happening on YouTube, I hope that this hairstyle will come in handy. It is EXTREMELY simple and easy to achieve. If you want to give your hair a break or just simply do not have a lot of time on your hands, then this is for you. However, this can be tricky to achieve on 4C hair. I don’t know about you guys, but I would never even dream about achieving this on my hair in its shrunken glory. Whenever my hair is fully stretched however (which doesn’t happen very often), this is my go to style.

In this particular case, I had just taken down a set of braids and needed something to do with my hair prior to washing and styling again. Needless to say, my hair was pretty dry and dirty as well, eek! I opted to moisturize and seal my hair, even though I knew I was going to wash it, just to make it more manageable for the bun. I also did not use any gel to smooth my edges for a couple of reasons. My hair doesn’t seem to like gels very much. They tend to leave my hair extremely dry. Also, I knew this style was temporary so there was no need to have it sculpted to my head. Lol

Products Used:

Shea Coconut Moisturizing Cream

-Whipped Shea Butter

-Hair Tie and Bobby Pins

-Gel (Optional)

I hope you will try this easy bun and share pictures with me on instagram!

More Doing

welcome_2015

With the New Year rolling in, what better time to start listing all the resolutions that I will not keep lol (kidding). If you are familiar with me, you already know that January is a tough month for me. However, I have decided this year to stop thinking/living in my mind and to start DOING. I am a planner. I plan and write everything down and that way it keeps my on track. If Post-it notes weren’t already invented, I am sure I would have invented them myself. However, what really get results is to actually get up and start doing the things that one put their minds to. And this is exactly what I plan on doing this year. I have been thinking about a lot of things in my life that I either want to change or accomplish. 2014 was a turning point for me, where I started to take the initiative to change my life. As you probably know, I quit my job and went back to school. As scary as this was, I am glad to say that I survived my first semester back. It was hard adjusting to the student like at first but I am more focus than ever for the upcoming semester.

With that said, I have a lot of ideas that I need to get out of my head (or Post it notes) and accomplish. So without further ado, I hope that you will be stick around and be part of this journey called life with me!

No more excuses

 More doing

 All the best for 2015!

Hey all

Sometimes, things don’t go as planned. Who am I kidding? It seems like they rarely go according to schedule. Life often throws one thing or another at us but I find that our attitude can make a huge difference. I usually tell myself that “It will all work out, so don’t worry”. All that to say that the first few weeks of classes were a nightmare. Everything that could have gone wrong has. Prime example: The first day of class.

So here I am, super excited for school. I gave myself more than enough time to get ready that morning. On top of that, my outfit, lunch and book bag were already organized the night before which is very unlike me. Anyways, I got ready, made a green smoothie for my breakfast and left for school about an hour and 15mns prior to my first class. I live about 20mns away from school (including traffic) but I was just too excited that day.

Apparently, the rest of the population also decided to hit the road at at the same time! Traffic was horrendous to say the least. It was a parking lot! I kept telling myself that it was impossible for me to arrive late since I had so much time. I was late.  I even had to take an alternative route to school (or I would have never made it), and finding parking was of course another nightmare.

Finally, book bag in hand, I ran to class.  Turned out they changed the classroom at the last minute. Say what?

I leave you with this quote on this fine Friday morning! I thought it was pretty inspiring. I hope you had a great, productive week!

Ps. The pictures were randomly taken on a hiking trip this summer. There is an hilarious story behind these photographs so let me know if you would like a great laugh. I had to stare at them for a few minutes, reminiscing on the warm weather though. It’s been so cold lately.  Winter is coming. eek!

DYNAMITE Blouse / AMERICAN APPAREL Jeans / PAYLESS Sandal/ HAIR Tutorial here

Last Friday was my last day of work. As I walked down the halls of the office where I dedicated the last two and a half years of my life, I was overwhelmed with emotions. This was the last time I would walk to the lunch room,  the last time I would hold a mindless conversation with the office manager, the last time I would punch out. Leaving the building was more sweet than bitter however, but I still felt disconnected to reality.

Was I really quitting my job? No more waking up late, panicking and running around like a chicken with its head cut off. No more fuming my way through the morning traffic in order to swipe in just a few minutes late. Although I had planned this for quite some time now, It still felt surreal. I enjoyed my last place of employment (to the certain extend, of course), but I knew it wasn’t something that I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I am going back to school.

Back to university, where I will still be running around like a chicken with its head cut off, battling the morning traffic and struggling to meet deadlines. If anything, life will be even more hectic now that I will be taking a full course load. Yesterday was my first day of school and I am ready to pull my hair out, trying to dig deep in my brain to recall what I’ve learned what seems like centuries ago!

As I take a leap to the uncertainties that life may throw my way, I pray that God with watch my every step.

To all of your that will be returning to school this semester or attending for the first time, cheers to your and let’s make it one of the best school year yet!

Angélique

Hey guys!

Remember me?

To be honest, I am not even sure what I actually want to blog about. Nevertheless, since I have been drawing blanks for so long, I decided to just freestyle this post.

About nearly a month ago, I had the pleasure to meet Ardean, a super talented Toronto-based photographer.  I have been reading her blog for some times now and I love her photography. She has a unique way of capturing one’s soul. Anyways, I contacted her and one thing leading to another, I was standing in front of her camera lens! She immediately made me feel right at home and I had an amazing time working with her.

As you probably know, I very rarely wear dresses. I actually purchased this one just for my shoot with Adrean. However, since I thought it looked so cute, I decided to recreate my own photoshoot with this outfit. I had a ton of fun capturing these images. A stranger actually stopped to ask me if I was getting married! haha. Maybe one day.

If you are interested on how I achieved this hairstyle, I have a tutorial here.

Take a Snapshot

Hello world,

Or shall I say hello to the very few who actually read this blog! Yep, it’s me again, popping in. I was catching up on a few of my favourite blogs the other day, and got inspired to take snapshots of my surroundings.  Many times, we take for granted the little things in our lives that keeps us sane, that makes us happy. Hence, I decided to walked around my apartment, camera in hand, and captured the  small items that make up the true picture of my life. I ended up having a serene Friday evening afterwards, sipping on a cup of Chamomile Tea.

Have a great week end!

What is your hair type?

4chair 4chair1 4chair3We all come in different shapes, sizes, heights etc. and so does our hair. It can be straight, curly, wavy, kinky, coily or just a combination of all the above. Because of how diverse hair can be, it is  difficult to place someone in one category. However, celebrity stylist, Andre Walker, came up with a hair typing system in hopes to simplify things. I personally believe that the chart is too broad to accurately  classify all the different hair types, but it is a start.

I have been getting a lot of questions regarding my hair type ever since my big chop.  I don’t pay much attention to my hair type typically, because it is simply a guide. At the end of the day, I listen to my hair and care for it according to its current need. If it feels dry, I deep condition and moisturize. If not, I leave it alone. If you are a newly natural and is seeking help on how to care for your hair, the hair typing system can come in handy. I recommend reading up on it on this site.

As stated previously, I have been getting a lot of comments on this matter. Some people think that my hair type has changed over the years, while others feel like I am not a true 4c hair chick as I claim to be. I consider myself to be in the 4c category because of how my hair behaves when it is fully dry. When I wet it, especially if I use a heavy product such a deep condition, my hair forms little ringlets/coils and appears to be in the 4a/b curls category. However, once my hair is dry, it shrinks up about 80% of its length, becomes cotton-like and looses any curl definition that it previously had when wet. There are no apparent curl pattern left. My hair just does want it wants. Because my hair loves thick products/moisturizers, is naturally dry and shrinks up a lot, I classify myself as a 4c hair chick. To those who thinks that my hair texture has changed since my big chop, it hasn’t. My techniques has changed, however, and I have learned how to keep it moisturized.

So, if you want to know my hair type, it is kinky, coily with fine, cotton-like strands. Take that as a category!
