Oh Hello,

Am I the only one who doesn’t feel compelled to wear something cliché on Valentine Day? I tend to stay away from bright colors, such as reds, most of the time and V-day is no exception. In this “get ready with me” instalment, I show you what I would wear. You can still be pretty feminine and girly in dark colours. Lately, I have been pretty obsessed with burgandy, and I am a little sad that Spring is on its way. However, I am looking forward to the warmer temperatures so I will keep the complaining to a minimal. Speaking of which, winter was absolutely delicious this year! I swear this has been the mildest one since I have lived in Canada. I mean, I am rocking a carding in the middle of February, for crying out loud! I hope that we don’t get a storm or anything soon, knock on wood.

It’s my birthday!

Well, technically it was last week but let me enjoy the moment. I am very grateful to the Lord for blessing me with yet another year. As I grow older, I find that I am transforming into a woman who is confident, and conformable in her own skin. It wasn’t always like this. I struggled in my teens years and it took a long time for me to accept who I am, flaws and all. Although I am not one to celebrate, I thoroughly enjoyed my birthday this year.

Can We Start Over?

Sigh, where do I even start?

At this point, I feel like I should re-introduce myself. This relationship doesn’t seem to be going very well now, is it? Apparently, I have commitment issues but I am willing to work on it. Dare to give me another chance? Last time I was around was well over 4 months ago and this is unacceptable. I hope that you can forgive, forget and allow us to start over with a clean slate.

With the new year upon us, I vow to become a lot more active on this platform. I have a lot of ideas cooking up in my head that I want to share with you all. This year, I want to stop over analyzing my every move and just LIVE. I want to take chances (and that is saying a lot in my case as I am so overly cautious).

I have thought about the direction I want to take with this blog. I enjoy blogging and vlogging because it connects with so many wonderful people. I blog to interact with other natural hair enthusiasts and it allows me to dip into a creative world that I wouldn’t have access to otherwise. As I get older however, I find myself becoming more and more attracted to all things beauty and that includes make-up! *gasp*. I have been down right obsessed lately, to the point that my own family doesn’t recognize me.

As a result, I want to make this blog a lifestyle blog, where I share all of my interests including hair, beauty, health and DIYs. I am challenging myself, and stepping our of my comfort zone. Expect a lot more content and let’s cheers to a successful year!

Hey all!

I was feeling so blue last week! I was really down about my laptop giving out on me and all the trips I had to make to the Apple Store, just to go nowhere. If you follow my Instagram, I posted a picture a few weeks ago, explaining that I would commit to Youtube, this blog and that I would do my very best to post at least a video/ blog post weekly. Of course, just a few days later my laptop stops functioning unexpectedly.  Usually I try to make the best out of every situation, but this one got to me. I had just spent so much money to get the battery replaced and it honestly felt like everything was going sideways! I was just very annoyed at life!

Luckily, I was able to get one last video off my laptop from my last trip to the Apple Store and uploaded it. I am so happy I was able to do so, not for the sake of uploading a video, but because of the response I got. So many people were telling me not to stress out over it and that everything will work out on its own! I needed to hear that. So a heartfelt “thank you” to those who left positive vibes on my last video. Sometimes we make plans, but God has other things in mind for us.

Ps.These pictures were taking a few months ago, when I had straighten my hair.

Cleaning Out My Closet

IMG_9091 IMG_9062 IMG_9065 IMG_9073

Have you ever felt like you wanted a makeover? Like you wanted to be part of TV shows such as “How Do I Look” or “What Not To Wear”? Well, I have. And lately the daunting task of cleaning out my closet has been hunting me. I promise you, I have clothes from possibly middle school hiding in the back on my closet, collecting dust. To make matters worse, I also have pieces that I have never even worn with the tags still on!

Since I have been thinking of updating my wardrobe, I have decided to change these bad habits and give myself a complete makeover. I have been feeling this way for quite some time. I need a change of style. As I get older, I am developing to a more classic, timeless yet comfortable sense of style. I am going for the minimalist look so I know I have some serious purging to do. However, before I go crazy and start to donate my entire wardrobe, I have made a promise to myself that I will wear each and every piece of clothing that I currently have, at least once. I mean, I bought them for a reason right. Unless they are either too small or just completely hideous, I will make use of them.

Basically, I am tired of having a closet filled with items, yet nothing to wear! I want to slowly move towards having a solid range of clothes that I want to wear; not a dizzying heap of things I have outgrown. Let’s not even mention the disastrous state that my closet is currently in, which makes is impossible to find anything! I will share my outfits with you all and perhaps, we can make this interactive. With each post, you can let me know your thoughts: To keep or to donate? That is the question. I hope you will follow me as I transition into this new “ME”.

Ps. For this post, I have no idea where the top or Jeans are from! They have been around since the Bush administration! Lol

The Infamous Wash-n-Go

IMG_5359 Wash and go cover Wash n go EDEN

One the biggest misconceptions about Natural Hair is that only a certain hair type can pull of the Wash-N-Go look.  I often wonder what that actually means. The thing with natural hair is that no matter how similar your hair may be to another, it is really rare to have the SAME exact hair pattern and density as someone else. For that reason, your hairstyles may never looks exactly like your friend’s or your favorite YouTuber even though you followed the same steps. With that said, what exactly is the “Wash-N-Go” look? Big hair? Perfect curls? I believe that the reason why people believe that 4C hair cannot do the Wash-N-Go is because of the preconceived ideas of how the end results should LOOK like.

The Wash-n-go should be just that: wash and go! We often spend endless hours raking products through our already beautiful tresses in a desperate attempt to have the perfect curl all around. The thing is, your hair is already perfect. The point of the wash and go, in my opinion, is to spend as little time as possible styling your hair. I believe it is a time when you let YOUR hair decide how it’s going to behave. We already put so much tension and stress manipulating our hair on the regular so why not just let it be free? The first step to achieving a wash and go is to understand that your hair is not going to look like mine, or the person next to you. It is going to look like your hair. It is going to be unique and it may not even look like the last wash-go you did last week. That’s okay. That is the beauty of it all. Once you realize that the goal of a wash-n-go is not to have perfect curls, and that no products is going to CREATE a hair pattern that you don’t have, then you will be able to succeed. Any hair types can “pull off” this hair style.

To help you with the process however, I am going to share with you how I achieve my wash-n-go. I find that using the right products can help prevent my hair from getting dry. The goal for me is to be able to wash my hair a week later and not be left with dry, brittle hair. This basically rules out all gels with high alcohol! I ended up using the Eden Body Works Coconut Shea Line and I loved it!

  1. Wash hair: I like to start with clean hair. Especially since I know I will be putting more products in my hair, it was crucial for me to wash it. That way, my hair will not feel sticky and/or weight down
  2. Deep Condition: This goes without saying! 4C hair craves moisture and I know that I have to deep condition my hair weekly to keep it nice and manageable.
  3. Define: I should emphasize that this step should be quick and simple. Also, no amount of products will create curls magically. Whatever products your end up using, just make sure that it doesn’t try your hair out. Also, I like to detangle my hair then too. This is where i really love the Eden Body works Curl Defining Creme because it has a lot of slip. It allows me to finger detangle, which is gentle on my hair. It also keeps my hair moisturized the entire week!
  4. Refresh: This step is done as needed but I will basically spritz my hair with water every morning and used an oil to full it out again. I sleep in a satin bonnet so my hair is pretty flat in the morning.

That is it! Super simple and super easy! If you would like a visual representation of what I do, watch the video below. If you have any questions, please let me know! Now tell me how you achieve your wash-n-gos and what are your holy grail products?

Listen To Your Heart

IMG_0147 IMG_0151-2 IMG_0131IMG_0184
Today I wanted to write about the importance of having a hobby. Personally, I can get so wrapped up into my day-to-day routines resulting in me getting pretty bored. You know: dealing with the not so interesting aspects of life such as work, school, finances, etc. that no one really WANTS to deal with but have to be done. So to spice things up a bit and to keep myself motivated, I try to do other things. I love to take pictures, film and edit YouTube videos, blog, read and sometimes play piano, if time permits. These activities disconnect me from routine life and also help reduce my stress level.
That being said, sometimes I ask myself why I blog. Other than the fact that it gives me a voice that I can use to communicate with you all, I often feel like a grain of sand by the ocean. With SO many other blogs out there, what do I have to offer of value? Lately, I have been feeling like I can no longer relate to fashion blogs like I once did. They are so “polished”, for lack of a better word, and while I can understand that with success comes change, I quite enjoy relaxed ‘outfits-of-the-days’ where I can afford what is being showcased and I am able to easily find the items/ similar pieces. I mean, do these bloggers really wear heels on a daily basis and sport a FULL face of make-up? LOL, oh you know I will choose comfort any day and I truly believe that you can look wonderful without having to spend 3 hours a day to get ready. I hope that through my more simplistic (and original) approach of blogging you can relate to me being a regular 20-something year old. Anyways, I digress.
Back to the topic at hand! Having a hobby keeps you sane. Some of us are fortunate enough to be able to make a living off of it, while others would risk becoming homeless as long as they are able to do what they love. I say: find balance in your life and do what makes you happy. It is yours after all! So GET CREATIVE: It’s never too late to add a new interest to your routine.

Baby, Let Your Hair Down

Hey guys!

About two weeks ago I’ve straighten my hair. I have been enjoying my straight hair so much that I never want to wash my hair ever again! Okay, well maybe I have to and I think I may do that this week end but for right now, this is life!

After the 6 months protective style challenge, It couldn’t wait to see if I had retained any length. Although my hair grew, the length wasn’t noticeable because I practically gave myself a hair cut back in April. As a result, my hair is the same length as when I started the challenge! I am okay with that but I am pretty unhappy with the thickness. For some reason, my hair has been thinning so much over the past year. I actually wanted to do a 3rd Big Chop after seeing how thin it was but I decided to just work on it. This will be my next goal for now. I won’t go into all the details on this post  but I will basically start from the inside out. I will make sure that I am getting lots of nutrients and I will start taking a multivitamin/hair vitamin! I am pretty horrible with keeping up with vitamins but I will set up multiple reminders and hopefully that helps. In addition, I will start to be very strict with my regimen, as I have been pretty lazy with it. I share this journey with you all, as always!

On another note, I have been experiencing more with my outfits! Look at me being all girlie with that dress!  I plan to step outside my comfort zone in the future and I am looking forward to it.

Happy Friday, by the way!

Feeling like a Teenager!

Hey guys!

I still remember quitting my full-time job so vividly last Fall. It was a nerve-racking thing to do as I not only enjoyed my work but I was also diving into a new chapter in my life. The uncertainty was killing me but I am glad to say that I survived two semesters of school!  It’s crazy how fast time went and I am one step closer to completing my degree. This goes to show that sometimes you just need to take the leap, and everything else will follow.

As we are finally experiencing warmer temperatures here, I have to say that I am looking forward to having four months off and enjoying the summer. The good thing about being a student is actually having downtime in the spring/ summer.  I feel like I am 18 all over again! When I was working full time, it just wasn’t the same. I still had to wake up early, went about the task of the day, and was too tired to accomplish much after work so it didn’t feel like summer at all. The days felt just as busy as any other seasons. However, I find myself rolling out of bed around 11am lately with a grin on my face and going to bed around 3am. I am telling you, the life! lol

I hope you are enjoying yourself, wherever you are!

Apples + Carrots – Ginger = Winners

IMG_9959Hey Guys!

A lot of you have been inquiring about my skin. Although my skin isn’t perfect [yet], it has tremendously changed over the past 5 months or so. I have very sensitive, acne prone skin and I still have a lot of the acne scars to prove it! My skin has been an uphill battle for as long as I can remember, but before I share with you my routine, I’d like to say that clear skin starts in the kitchen, or the fridge lol. I know that’s not what you may want to hear, but it is the truth. You are what you eat and diet plays an important role in how you skin looks and feels.

When my skin was at it’s worst last year, I decided to go vegan. It was a decision that I made after reading the book “Acne No More”. It is a holistic approach to healing the body from the inside out. If you followed my Instagram at that time, you are aware of this as posted most of my meals. Anyways, this was the turning point for my skin. It was a way to detoxify my body and I no longer broke out daily. This allowed my skin to breath and finally heal from years of acne. Although I am no longer vegan, I still watch what I eat. I haven’t been on top of it lately but I try to eat my green vegetables, fruits and healthy fats.

Before I start going into detail about my current skin routine, I would like to start sharing with you all my favorite juices and smoothies. This one is SO easy and simple but full of flavor. You haven’t had apple juice until you’ve made your own. Seriously!

Ingredients (for 16oz):

-Apples (I used 1 Gala and 2 Green Apples)

-1 cup and a half of Baby Carrots

-A small piece of Ginger (Optional)

Toss all the ingredients in a juicer and enjoy!

On a side note:

I would like to thank every one who participated in my last giveaway! I wish I could give something to every one of you to show my gratitude! As a result, instead of choosing 4 winners, I will choose 6! YAY!

Congratulations to Sara, Shushana, Bianca, Whitney, Windia, and Sherise!!! Please contact me with your mailing information!
